Graphic novels and comics

Turn illustrated stories into printed works readers will want to keep.

Designed for visual storytelling

Graphic novels and comics place unique demands on print. Line clarity, ink density, and color consistency all play a critical role in how a story is perceived on the page. The right combination of paper and binding ensures panels remain crisp, blacks stay deep, and colors reproduce faithfully from first page to last.

Short-form comics often benefit from lightweight bindings that encourage distribution and sharing, while longer narratives gain presence and durability from bound formats designed for repeated reading.

Whether you are an experienced author or a beginner, our publishing team is here to guide you every step of the way.

We will help you choose the right format, paper and cover finish so that your book turns out exactly as you imagined it. With formats ranging from 4.25×7 to 9×12 inches and more than 20 types of paper to choose from, you will have all the freedom you need to create a book that truly reflects your unique personality.

Tailoring the format to your project

Every illustrated project has different needs: page count and illustration style often help determine the right production choices. Our team can assist you in order to choose the trim size, binding, and paper so your comic or graphic novel feels intentional and artistic, not generic.

When the story calls for a stronger binding

Perfect binding and hardcover formats give graphic novels the structure they need for extended reading. These options elevate the book’s presence, protect the artwork, and support repeated use without compromising comfort.

Paper and its impact on artwork

Paper selection directly affects how ink, color, and texture appear on the page. Glossy stocks emphasize saturation and contrast, bringing energy to full-color illustrations.

Matte and offset papers reduce reflection and preserve fine line work, making them a strong choice for black-and-white or dialogue-heavy comics.

The right paper helps the artwork read naturally, without distraction.

What we do

Practical guidance from file to final print

We review your files for resolution, bleed, margins, and color setup, helping prevent common issues before they reach the press. Our role is to make sure the technical side of printing supports your creative work, not the other way around.

FAQ about graphic novels & comics

How do I lay out my novel/non-fiction book?

To ensure that your book is produced in the most professional and aesthetic way, ideally your files should be prepared in advanced layout software such as Adobe InDesign. Thanks to our Graphic design & page layout service, one of our graphic designers can help you with this.

Alternatively, an online tool such as Canva can be used to create relatively high quality print files.

If your book contains images, avoid using Microsoft Word as much as possible.

Once your quotation has been accepted, our pre-press team will be on hand to examine your files and give you advice on how to provide us with 100% compliant files.

A sheet is a physical piece of paper that always has two pages: one on the front and one on the back.

At Rapido, we always express ourselves in terms of the number of pages on our quotes and in our communications, never in terms of the number of sheets.

Like all professional printers, we need 2 separate PDF files: one for the inside of the book, the other for the assembled cover (except for books in spiral/wire’o binding, for which only 1 PDF file is required).

These PDFs must comply with a certain number of conditions concerning presentation, format, fonts, bleeds, image resolution and colour profile. For a full list of our technical requirements, visit our Printing guide section.

The value of the spine depends on the number of pages in your book and the paper chosen; it is indicated on all our quotes. And don’t hesitate to use our free online spine calculator!
